Description

With July being the 5th anniversary of me joining dA, I decided to remake some of my older pics that haven't aged well

So the first one is a remake of my first age swap pic of Ariel and Melody from the Little Mermaid

=======================

Dialogue by :iconhistoryisawesomeguy:

Ariel: "Wh-what's happened to us? Why am I so young?"

Melody: "And I'm...older?"

Ariel: "We've got to find out how to change back to normal somehow and fast."

Melody: "Whoa, slow down there 'mom', we don't have to change back just yet. You can enjoy being a little mermaid again while I enjoy the 'company' of other merfolk under the sea."

Ariel: "But Melody..."

First of all, I'll talk a bit about your improvement, since this is a redone image. Compared to the earlier version I feel that this image generally looks a lot better and definitely shows your improvement. I feel like the lines are smoother and more confident and the general composition of the image feels a lot more interesting. The stone being cropped in the bottom left corner of the image works very well. I feel like you've also improved in your general anatomy compared to the earlier work.

Although the head shapes look a lot better, the proportions and positioning of their faces seem a bit odd. To me their faces look very flat and Ariel's ear seems to be placed way higher than would be natural.

I feel like your anatomy has improved, but it still has a lot of areas to improve upon. Melody's arms look a bit twisted in their positioning and Melody's right shoulder seems to be hidden behind her chest, which would be very unlikely given her pose. Both the characters' hands look a bit wonky. I know that hands can be really tricky; try to find references that may help you. Also keep an eye out for their proportions, it seems like Melody's hands are smaller than Ariel's, which would be quite weird in this context. I feel like doing some figure drawing or a few anatomy studies could really help you improve here and allow you to draw more natural-looking poses.

Your colors look pretty good and give a general nice feeling to the drawing. The shadows look a bit weird at times though and in some places they seem to be missing; like underneath Ariel's arms. Having her arms crossed over her chest in this fashion would definitely cast a shadow on her chest. Also under the charcacters' chins and underneath Melody's quite large bosom shadows seem to be missing. You may also want to experiment a bit with highlights. Place them in areas that would be well-lit, it can add a lot of depth and interest to your drawings.

As a minor nitpick; I feel like Ariel's eyes should definitely show some longer eyelashes. Not extremely given her increased youth, but leaving them out like this makes it seem a bit to me that she's currently a boy, since the eyelashes are the major defining trait for girls in the disney style.

Again, I would like to point out that this image shows a lot of improvement and a lot of potential. I've given a lot of points that you could improve upon, and I hope that this critique won't discourage you too much. You should definitely be proud of this image and I hope that you will continue to improve!
